$200 Rebate on VAIO P Too Good To Be True

It's hard not to get attached to the Vaio P. It's attractive, small and has a style all its own. I would want one if it wasn't for the ridiculous $900 price tag and the fact that the P is all but a slave to Verizon. However, the blogs are alive with report of a $200 rebate offered on the Vaio P, which is bound to turn some heads.

But let's make sure we get the facts straight before we start jumping on this bandwagon. It's not an actual discount on the P, it's actually a discount offered from Verizon Wireless on the data contract. This rebate is only available for those who a) sign up for or renew a two-year data contract (about $60/month), b) have activated service between Jan. 25 and March 31, 2009, c) had consecutive service for at least thirty days and d) go through the self-activation process online. Only when you do the self activation from Verizon's website does the PDF form comes up that allows you to apply for the rebate and then receive a $200 debit card. Yeah, DEBIT CARD. Suddenly my head is turning the other way, it was too good to be true.

It's difficult to tell exactly which products in the Vaio line are going to be available for this rebate other than the P. The offer doesn't go into details, so we recommend you try it with your Vaio and see if you get the card in the mail. It's 50/50 - either you will or you won't.

While you are deciding whether or not going this route will be worth it (personally, I'm going to wait for the price on the P to drop significantly) for you, check out the netbook reviews and these other blog posts that, while they may not save you money, definitely don't cost $60/month to read ... unless you're reading them on your Vaio P:
