CES Coverage: The Panasonic Booth
Panasonic had one of the biggest spaces at this year's CES. They also had the largest TV, a 150 inch plasma behemoth (although this was at last year's CES as well) and the thinnest plasma set which was only about 1/3 of an inch thin.
Panasonic didn't have anything that was overly ground breaking this year, but the products they did have were good products and noteworthy nonetheless. Their entire TV line is more efficient than in years past while improving important video characteristics such as contrast, brightness, and color. Their plasma displays are also capable of displaying full 1080p during motion, something that other manufacturers can't claim.
Perhaps one of the cooler features implemented this year was the wireless HDMI connection. Essentially what this means is you literally only have to run one cord for power, for now, and everything else connects to the TV wirelessly. This undoubtedly will make professional TV installers' lives easier. The HDMI has a range of about 30 feet.
Panasonic also showed of their plasma HD theater. 3D seemed to be all the rage this year and Panasonic was no exception. Within Panasonic's display was an entirely enclosed theater, complete with stadium seating where visitors could watch 10 minute's worth of HD 3D clips on one of their 103 inch plasma displays. The clips looked good, although it still required the use of 3D glasses. Wouldn't it be nice if someone could do 3D without the glasses?
While Panasonic didn't exactly overwhelm us with their lack of OLED TVs, their impressive selection of TVs and innovative displays will keep them in business for a good long while.
