Take Better Pictures of Fireworks
Many of us will be heading out this weekend to watch spectacular fireworks displays. If you plan to take your camera with you, here are a few tips to help you take the best fireworks pictures possible:
• Use a tripod. Using a tripod is perhaps the most important tip. A tripod will allow the camera to remain steady while the shutter is open. This will keep the image looking sharp and keep the blur down.
• Use a remote shutter release. Even the slightest shake can ruin an otherwise perfect image. Even the movement from pressing the shutter can be enough to ruin your picture. Using the remote shutter or even a timer will eliminate the shake from your finger on the shutter.
• Shutter speed. For the best results, slow your shutter down. Using a long exposure will allow you to take better pictures. This will also allow the camera to capture the entire fireworks explosion.
• Turn your flash off. Since your shutter will be open for a longer period of time, your flash could potentially over-expose your picture. Since the fireworks are farther away than the range of your flash anyway, there is no need to have it turned on.
• Location. Just like in real estate, location is key. Be sure to find a place where no one will walk in front of the camera. You will also want to find a place that is as far away from ambient light as possible, such as street lights.
These tips will help you remember your 4th of July celebrations and also make all your friends think you are a pro.
