At some point in every little girl’s life, they’ve developed an idea of what they want their dream wedding to be like. They all want her own handsome prince, the flowers, cake and a sparkling, white princess dress (complete with tiara and veil), possibly even a white stallion to ride off on into the setting sun. I know I did. But, I never thought of having a dream wedding in Vegas. I usually associated Vegas weddings with Elvis. So when we saw the PC game Dream Day Wedding: Viva Las Vegas, I had to see what it was about.
Right from the first, it wasn’t what I had expected. In the game, instead of being the bride, groom, or Elvis, you’re an elite Wedding planner on your way to the Palladium Resort in Las Vegas to plan Kelsey and David’s wedding. Oh, you also get to meet Debbie, the “dreaded mother of the bride”. When you arrive at your hotel room there’s a gift waiting along with a note from the bride, (one of many to be received throughout the game to help you with your tasks in getting ready for the wedding). The gift is actually a cell phone- which is another way for the bride, groom and Debbie to be able to get in touch with you when they need something.
Throughout the game you’re sent on errands for anything and everything the happy couple wants for their big day. So if you like treasure hunt games, this one is for you. That’s not all the game consists of. Not only do you get to trapeze about the whole resort searching for items- as well as playing matching games and poker. Yeah- poker. More specifically, Tally 21, (great for little kids to learn, right?). The game is spiced up a bit with un-expected adventures or events. There are places within the game where you become “trapped!” and have to find your way back out by using objects you find to help you escape.
There are also crises’ that you must avert to save the wedding; such as saving the brides cake, repairing the reception site- and even re-designing the brides dress and bouquet after a little mishap. My personal favorite crisis is when you get to break into a jewelry vault because the groom had somehow gotten locked inside of it when he was getting the rings for the wedding. I felt accomplished! I officially know how to break into a jewelry vault and my car: (my car door has a tendency to lock itself on me and won’t open no matter what- it was a trait I had to learn).
Dream Day Wedding also keeps you busy on the lookout for golden cards with Palladium points, which allow you to buy fancy upgrades and items for the reception site. The golden dice scattered throughout the resort work as hints in case you get stuck trying to find something. You also get to meet people while playing the game. Some, if you’re nice to them and answer them just right will give you more Palladium points, where as others you want to avoid because they’ll take the points from you. (Stupid mime, I had to pay him 100 points for a performance.)
Once you manage to save the wedding and the bride and groom are happily married, you get to view all the pictures of the wedding and your handy work. Another surprise is also waiting for you in your room; Debbie won the lottery- and decided to give you a flood of presents for everything you did. So even though I had expected something a little different, it exceeded my expectations. All of us got a kick out of the wedding bells that chimes whenever you accomplished something; and even though Elvis didn’t pop up to hitch the love birds like we all sort of expected, I still got to decorate a cake that looked just like him. Dream Day Wedding: Viva Las Vegas the PC game was full of hilarious escapades as well as fun, though limited, activities.
